The BNP has not announced any candidate for the Dhaka-7 constituency, long regarded as a stronghold of the party. The seat was once represented in parliament by Nasiruddin Ahmed Pintu, who died in prison during the Awami League government. His family has claimed that he was killed.
Several aspirants were seeking the party’s nomination for the high-profile constituency. Among them were Pintu’s wife, former commissioner Nasima Akhter Kalpana; his brother, Riyaz Uddin Ahmed Moni, president of BNP Australia (Victoria); BNP National Executive Committee member Hamidur Rahman Hamid; former organizing secretary of the Jubo Dal central committee Ishaq Sarker; BNP central committee assistant youth affairs secretary Mir Newaz Ali Newaz; BNP central executive committee member Rafiqul Islam Russell; and former joint convener of BNP Dhaka South city unit Mosharraf Hossain Khokon.
The Dhaka-7 constituency comprises parts of Bangshal and Kotwali, as well as Chakbazar, Lalbagh, parts of Hazaribagh, and Wards 55 and 56 of Kamrangirchar.
