The BNP has announced candidates for 237 constituencies ahead of the upcoming 13th national parliamentary election. Among them, Tahmina Rushdir Luna—wife of missing BNP leader M. Ilias Ali and a member of the BNP Chairperson’s Advisory Council—has been nominated to contest from Sylhet-2.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced the candidate list on Monday (3 November) at a press conference held at the party chairperson’s office in Gulshan, Dhaka. Earlier, the BNP’s Standing Committee finalized the preliminary list at a meeting led by acting chairman Tarique Rahman.
Mirza Fakhrul said, “For the first time in 16 years, we are heading toward a democratic election, expected in February. We are announcing a list of potential candidates for around 237 constituencies. Seats allocated to our allies in the simultaneous movement will be coordinated accordingly.”
Several senior BNP leaders, including Dr. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Mirza Abbas, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Abdul Moyeen Khan, Maj. (Retd.) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Selima Rahman, Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku, and Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain were present at the press conference.
