Dhaka University (DU) has published a list of 403 activists from the banned organisation Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) who were involved in “illegal and violent” incidents on campus between 15 July and 5 August 2024.
The information was announced in a notice signed by the university’s Proctor, Professor Saifuddin Ahmed, on Tuesday (4 November). The notice also stated that, based on the investigation report of the July Movement incidents, the process of permanently expelling the accused students has begun.
According to the notice, an initial fact-finding committee had been formed to identify those involved in the illegal and violent activities on campus. In its preliminary report, the committee accused 128 students, and following discussions in a Syndicate meeting, they were temporarily expelled from the university.
Later, a five-member investigation committee was formed for further inquiry. In its second meeting, the committee found involvement of another 403 students — including the previously identified 128.
The list includes the names of banned organisation BCL’s central president Saddam Hossain, general secretary Sheikh Wali Asif Enan, DU unit president Mazharul Kabir Shayon, DU unit general secretary Tanvir Hasan Saikat, and a total of 403 individuals.
The Proctor’s Office notice further stated that the accused must submit a written explanation within seven working days showing why they should not be permanently expelled from Dhaka University for their offences. Failure to do so will result in unilateral action as per DU regulations.
