Tarique Rahman to Contest Election From Bogura-6

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has announced candidates for 237 constituencies for the 13th national parliamentary election.

The list was unveiled on Monday (Nov. 3) evening by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at the party chairperson’s political office in Gulshan.

Earlier, the party’s standing committee met under the leadership of Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, where a preliminary list of party nominees was finalized.

Addressing the briefing, Mirza Fakhrul said that after 16 years, Bangladesh is set to hold a national parliamentary election in February 2026. He added that the BNP has already begun organizational work across the country to prepare for the polls. As part of that process, the party is announcing potential candidates for 237 seats. He noted that in constituencies where alliance partners from the joint movement plan to field candidates, the BNP has refrained from announcing nominees and will coordinate accordingly.

According to the announcement, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia will contest the election from Bogura-7 and Dinajpur-3, while Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman will run from Bogura-6.

Mirza Fakhrul said he himself will contest the election from Thakurgaon-1. BNP Standing Committee member Maj. (retd.) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, Bir Bikrom, will contest from Bhola-3.
