Turkey Issues Arrest Warrants for Netanyahu and 36 Other Israeli Officials Over Gaza War Crimes Allegations. Istanbul’s Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office has issued arrest warrants for 37 Israeli officials—including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Israel Katz, and National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir—over alleged war crimes and atrocities committed during Israel’s military operations in Gaza.
The warrants, reported Friday (Nov. 8) by Al Jazeera citing Turkish media, stem from an ongoing investigation into civilian massacres and widespread destruction in Gaza. According to Turkish daily *Sabah*, the suspects include senior Israeli political and military leaders accused of orchestrating or enabling attacks that have killed more than 68,000 Palestinians, most of them women and children.
Another Turkish outlet, Turkiyey Today, reported that the Istanbul Chief Prosecutor filed the warrants in connection with genocide allegations linked to Israel’s Gaza campaign. The list reportedly names several top officials, including Defense Minister Katz, National Security Minister Ben-Gvir, Border and Security Minister Yaal Zamir, and Israeli Navy Commander David Saar Salama.
A press release from the prosecutor’s office earlier this month said the investigation focuses on what Turkish authorities describe as “systematic violence” against civilians in Gaza. Specific incidents cited include the Oct. 17, 2023 strike on Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital and the Oct. 21 damage to Eblai Baptist Hospital, both of which caused mass civilian casualties.
Prosecutors also referenced the April 1, 2024 killing of World Central Kitchen aid workers during a humanitarian mission.
The charges center on allegations that Israeli forces intentionally targeted civilians and vital infrastructure, restricted humanitarian aid, and blocked access to medical assistance. Turkish prosecutors also noted statements from the Samud Flotilla, which claimed efforts were made to deliver aid to Gaza through the “Samud Route,” allegedly hindered by Israeli actions.
