India claimed their second consecutive win to take a 2–1 lead in the five-match T20I series, defeating Australia by 48 runs on Thursday.
Sent in to bat, India put up 167 for eight in their 20 overs after a strong opening stand but a faltering finish. Abhishek Sharma scored 28 off 21 balls before departing, while Shubman Gill missed a half-century by a narrow margin, making 46 off 39 deliveries. Shivam Dube added 22 from 18, and Suryakumar Yadav chipped in with a brisk 20 off 10. Axar Patel’s 21 off 11 provided a late lift, though the rest of the middle order failed to capitalize.
Australia began their chase well, with Mitchell Marsh and Matthew Short sharing a 37-run opening partnership off 29 balls. Short fell for 25 off 19, and Josh Inglis followed soon after with 12 off 11. Marsh, too, couldn’t convert his start, departing for 30 from 24 deliveries. Tim David attempted an aggressive approach but was dismissed for 14 off nine.
From there, Australia suffered a dramatic collapse, losing seven wickets for just 28 runs. Marcus Stoinis managed 17 off 19, but no other batter could steady the innings. The visitors were bowled out for 119 with 10 balls remaining.
India’s bowlers delivered an excellent performance. Washington Sundar claimed three wickets in just eight balls, while Dube and Axar each picked up two.
With this commanding win, India now lead the series 2–1.
