Nahid Islam Vows to Quit Politics if NCP Fails to Reach Power Within 10 Years

Nahid Islam, the convener of the newly formed National Citizen Party (NCP), has declared that he will leave politics entirely if his party fails to come to power within the next 10 years. The party, which launched on February 28 this year, has also announced plans to contest all 300 seats in its first national election.

In a recent interview with a local media outlet, Nahid said the NCP is setting a 10-year target to establish itself as a major political force capable of forming the government.

“We are taking a 10-year target, and I believe that within these 10 years we will be established in Bangladeshi politics, come to power, and form the government,” he said.

Explaining his long-term approach, he added, “If we cannot reach power within 10 years, I will quit politics. During this time, I want to build the party, form the government, and achieve our goals.”

Nahid believes the NCP has already made significant progress in a short period. “We have come a long way. A political party usually reaches this stage in 10 to 20 years—yet we have already achieved that,” he claimed.

He further said the recent mass uprising “pushed us 10 to 15 years ahead,” adding that the people have given the party both the opportunity and the responsibility to move forward. “The rest depends on our ability, integrity, and dedication,” Nahid noted.
