At a press conference held Monday (3 November) evening at the party office in Rupayan Tower, Banglamotor, Dhaka, NCP leader Nasiruddin Patwary called on nomination-deprived BNP aspirants to join the National Citizen Party (NCP).
Nasiruddin Patwary said young leaders were sidelined in the BNP’s candidate list. “We welcome leaders from Chhatra Dal and Jubo Dal to join our party. If they come to the NCP, we will nominate candidates from among them,” he said.
Commenting on BNP’s candidate list, the NCP leader added, “BNP has announced its candidate list today. Tarique Rahman is returning to the country—we welcome him. We also congratulate uncompromising leader Khaleda Zia, who has been nominated in three constituencies. We will continue reforms while upholding the spirit of the July Movement.”
He further stated that some large parties are attempting to lure smaller parties with promises of seats, which he said undermines democratic values. “A force is now active to destroy multiparty democracy. Even within alliances, elections must be contested under each party’s own symbol. If a major party sells its symbol to a smaller party, the public will not vote for such candidates,” he warned.
In a message to the Chief Adviser, Patwary said the upcoming referendum must be based on national consensus, not partisan interests. He added, “Only Chief Adviser Dr. Yunus can provide the legal framework for the July Charter. The students and the people placed you in this position—so you must remain steadfast.”
