Adani warns of power supply suspension in letter to shut off electricity supply to Bangladesh over unpaid bills.
India’s Adani Power Limited warned that unless all outstanding payments are cleared by November 10, it will suspend power supply starting November 11. Adani Power’s Vice Chairman, Avinash Anurag, issued the warning in a letter sent to the BPDB chairman on October 31.
According to the letter, BPDB has yet to pay $496 million in outstanding dues, including $262 million in confirmed unpaid invoices owed directly by BPDB. “If the full amount is not paid by November 10, we will be compelled to halt power supply from November 11,” the letter stated.
Adani Power said that despite regular communication and multiple letters—most recently on October 27—BPDB failed to settle the dues. Citing clauses 13.2(i)(i) and (ii) of the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) signed on November 5, 2017, the company noted that it has the contractual right to suspend supply in such situations.
The company also noted that, under the agreement, it remains entitled to capacity payments based on “dependable capacity” even if supply is suspended.
Earlier, on September 27, Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani wrote to Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus, urging him to clear $464 million in dues.
He stated that while Bangladesh made partial payments between June and September, a large sum remains outstanding. He also said that during a meeting on June 23, 2025, BPDB officials had promised to clear all dues—including late payment surcharges (LPS)—by September, but no definitive timeline has been provided.
Gautam Adani urged the government to immediately settle the dues to avoid further financial and operational pressure.
Multiple reliable sources within the Power Division confirmed that BPDB is currently operating under directives from the government-formed National Review Committee on Power Purchase Agreements (PPA).
