The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has released a list of potential candidates for 237 parliamentary constituencies ahead of the upcoming national election. Notably absent from the list is prominent party leader Rumin Farhana.
The list was announced on Monday (Nov. 3) evening by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at the party chairperson’s political office in Gulshan.
Sources said Rumin Farhana had sought the BNP nomination for the Brahmanbaria-2 constituency, comprising Sarail and Ashuganj. However, no candidate has been announced for that seat at this time.
Earlier, the party’s standing committee met under the leadership of Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, where an initial list of party nominees was finalized.
Speaking at the briefing, Mirza Fakhrul said that after 16 years the country is set to see a democratic election in February. He added that the BNP has announced a list of potential candidates for about 237 constituencies, and that in seats where alliance partners from the simultaneous movement announce their own candidates, the BNP will coordinate accordingly.
