BNP Chairperson’s Adviser Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal has called for the organizational banning of Jamaat-e-Islami and urged effective measures to prevent the resurgence of anti–Liberation War politics.
He made the call on Saturday (November 1, 2025) while speaking at a discussion organized at the National Press Club.
Alal said the BNP has now reached a point where various groups use the party for their own interests whenever it suits them. “BNP today is like the bark of the arjun tree—whoever needs it, cuts it off,” he remarked.
He added that the country is currently gripped by politicians with multiple faces and shifting identities, and in such a situation, the BNP must act with patience and wait for the right time.
Criticizing Jamaat-e-Islami’s political strategy, Alal said the party has changed its tactics and is now trying to establish contact with the Hindu community, a move he warned could raise questions about the BNP’s image. “Jamaat is changing its appearance and emerging with a new mask, while BNP is being used like the bark of an arjun tree,” he said.
The BNP adviser further claimed that Jamaat had benefited from ruling parties at different times in the past. He alleged that many Jamaat leaders were once associated with JASAD and even had links with controversial political groups. He also noted that some Islami Chhatra Shibir members who had previously joined Chhatra League are now revealing their old identities.
At the same event, Moazzem Hossain Alal reiterated the demand for trials of those involved in crimes against humanity during the 1971 Liberation War, saying individuals who opposed the spirit of the Liberation War should not be allowed to organize politically.
