Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A M M Nasir Uddin has said that Bangladesh is standing at a highly critical juncture. As a nation and as a country, which direction we will take, and how we will move forward on the path of democracy—all of this depends on the upcoming national election.
He made the remarks on Monday (November 3) while inspecting election training for Ansar-VDP members.
Addressing members of Ansar and VDP, he said, “Beyond being members of a force, we are also citizens of this country. We carry a civic responsibility as well.”
The CEC added, “I am the Chief Election Commissioner, but I am also a citizen of Bangladesh. As a citizen, I have responsibilities. What kind of Bangladesh we will leave behind for the future—whether it will be democratic, how we will shape it—this is something that constantly concerns me. I don’t see this as a routine duty or a job; I consider it a mission, a challenge.”
The Chief Election Commissioner further said, “I do not believe in sticking to conventional ways of doing things—especially at such a critical moment when the country is in a sensitive state. We cannot operate in a traditional manner. We must step outside old patterns and find solutions beyond convention.”
