Bangladeshi-origin Nabila McLeod has been elected as a Family Court Judge in Rockland County, New York—making her the first Muslim judge to serve on the county’s family court bench.
Nabila hails from the Chowdhury family of Dohar in Dhaka. She is the daughter of freedom fighter Rasool Ashraf and the niece of renowned Bangladeshi sports commentator Shamim Ashraf Chowdhury.
Her family migrated to the United States in 1979, and Nabila was born in Illinois. After completing high school in Bangladesh, she returned to the U.S. in 1998 to pursue higher studies in law, eventually building her career as an Executive Assistant District Attorney.
With more than 18 years of experience in the legal field, Nabila is known for her fairness, impartiality, and deep sense of empathy. She is committed to making decisions that prioritize the well-being of families and children in Rockland County.
